Life Lately

I have been so bad about blogging lately, so this is from a few weeks ago but I didn’t want to miss sharing it.

Elin and I attended a cupcake and canvas event at her dance studio. It was free as a customer appreciation event and it turned out to be such a fun evening. We painted our background and then had pizza for dinner as the paint dried and then we painted out tutus on top and then had cupcakes as that dried.

Elin was one of the youngest girls there but she enjoyed painting and talking to the older girls. I hope the dance studio considers doing this again because it was a lot of fun.

We also have been slowly putting up all the Christmas decor. I’m so excited for Grayson’s first Christmas.

Elin has had so much fun putting on and arranging all the ornaments. She is not supposed to touch the ornaments now but I’m not sure if that is happening because it seems as though I find little clusters of them down at the bottom of the tree.

This little guy just got his first little tree for his room. Pictures of that to come soon. Grayson is enjoying looking at the twinkling lights on the tree. We are so excited to share in all the holiday excitement with him.

My Little Starlet Dancer

Elin has been dancing for 2 years now but this is the first year she was old enough to be in the dance recital.

She had been practicing the dance for months and I had been explaining to her how she would be on a big stage just like we when saw the Nutcracker and that we would all be the audience watching her. I don’t think she really believed me but she finally did when we had her dress rehearsal at the theatre downtown.

The rehearsal was just a week after Grayson was born and that was the first time I was away from him for a few hours. The rehearsal was the only time you could take flash photography since it was prohibited during the actual recital, so all my pictures are from the rehearsal–but my pictures did not turn out that great.

I was a little worried that Elin might try to go her own dance moves that she was fond of incorporating when we practiced, but luckily she stuck to the routine that was choreographed for them— and she did a great job!

Practicing the finale.

As a surprise, her aunt Jenni came to see her during the rehearsal and brought her some beautiful flowers and a book called, “The day before my dance recital.”

Here is come pictures with her friends backstage.

Elin did such a good job on the day of her actual recital. I could not take any pictures during the show but got a few pictures after the show.

Here she is with her teacher, Ms. Katie.

The director of the studio, Ms. Beverly.

My friend Diana came to see her and brought her the lovely ballerina Peppa doll.

And a not flattering picture of Elin and me.

I am so proud of Elin for doing such a good job and not getting scared on stage.

First Day of Dance Class

Elin had her first day of dance class and it was a success!  Ever since she had her initial tour and visit to buy ballet shoes and leotards, she has  had dance and ballet on the mind! When she woke up and I told her it was the day of her first class, she could’t have been more excited.  She kept talking about her shoes and dress over and over.  She was also very excited that her friend Lydia was going to be there.  These girls get together 2-3 times a week and have grown quite close.

We arrived early to take pictures and the girls had fun checking out all the pretty tutus and shoes for sale.

The anticipation was too much and they were all smiles bouncy around and awaiting their first class.

Finally it was time for class and they got to go in and meet their teacher, Miss Katie again and the other little girl in class.  We think that there will be more joining the class in the coming weeks. But, for now it is a great opportunity for a more individualized experience.

There was even a balance beam which is one of Elin’s favorite items in her Gymboree class right now.  This one was taller and a little more intimidating so she preferred to just scoot along on it.

Learning to curtsy.

Before we knew it, class was over and it was time to get a stamp and sucker for a job well done.  Pictures with the teacher and class were mandatory.

This picture cracks me up because as I was trying to get a group shot it was hard to get everyone to look at once and so the teacher said, “Elin, where is your mommy?” to get her to look at me and instead of just looking she pointed and started to run towards me saying, “There is my mommy!”

I think it’s safe to say Elin loved dance class and will be looking forward to going and learning more each week.

I got her a ballerina balloon and a tutu for her stuffed dog to commemorate the occasion.

Tiny twinkle toes

Today is Elin’s first day of dance class and she is so excited!  Elin loves having activities and things to do so I saw that dance classes start for 2 year olds and signed her up.   She went and toured the dance school during the day with her Nana and the report back was she loved it and was excited.  She is also looking forward to starting lessons with one of her friends that she meets with every week.  I took her over the weekend to get shoes, leotards and tights and she was thrilled to pieces to try everything on.  She has been talking about her ballet shoes ever since. I can’t wait to see her in action today!  I have a feeling that she is really going to love dancing and that this will be another great activity for her.
